Teaching the
 World to Read!

27 million American adults can't read!

A tutor works with only one student at a time. They meet twice a week for 1.5 hours each lesson.   Scheduling is at their mutual convenience.  Lessons can be held at Palm Harbor and Oldsmar Libraries, or at the home of either the student or tutor.

Student and tutor books are loaned by the Friends of the Library.  If a student wants to write in the book, they may be purchased at cost.

If You Can Read, You Can Teach!

In addition, tact, patience, and caring are required.  You MUST complete a training workshop to be certified as a Pro Literacy tutor.  Workshops are held in throughout the year.  Please call 784-3332 ext. 211 for more information.

Commitment ....

Questions to ask yourself:

Will I be able to work with a student 1.5 hours per lesson, twice a week?
(Yes, we take holidays and a vacation)
Will I prepare for lessons in advance?  (nominal time)
Will I be on time or reschedule in advance, if necessary?
Am I willing to continue until my student succeeds?  (18-24 mo.)
Can I attend the entire tutor training workshop?
Will I attend a 2 hour tutor in-service training session 3 times a year?
(No Fee!)
Is my hearing ability good?

You can learn more about it at a 2 hour Orientation.
